HOMMAGE À ALAÏA — Akio Nagasawa Gallery

November 29, 2018 – February 23, 2019

The exhibition Hommage à Alaïa at Akio Nagasawa Gallery in Tokyo showcased a selection of Aurore de La Morinerie’s original works created for fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa and his eponymous brand. Displayed for the first time in Asia, the exhibition featured monotypes printed on Japanese washi paper and drawings inspired by Alaïa’s iconic designs, many of which were originally presented at the Palais Galliera in 2013.

Aurore’s work interprets Alaïa’s mastery of form, capturing the timeless architecture of his garments with her unique combination of ink, watercolor, and monotype techniques. Her drawings transcend illustration, offering poetic, sculptural portraits of Alaïa’s creations.

In conjunction with the exhibition, a limited-edition book titled Hommage à Alaïa was published, featuring a text by Olivier Saillard, former director of the Palais Galliera. This collaboration commemorates the first anniversary of Alaïa’s passing, celebrating his enduring legacy through Aurore’s artistic vision.
